Mike Cooper

Mike Cooper

Mike's interest in back stage technical work began with a 1970's Wymondham College school production. He became lighting director for many of their plays and shows, including a full scale production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.

Mike went on to study radio and electronics at Norwich City College. There he learned skills he has subsequently put to good use building and repairing lighting control equipment for the Drayton Players, for whom he has been responsible for all technical matters for their shows for many years. Mike has also been stage manager, and has even been known to 'tread the boards' on the odd occasion too!

In 2003, Mike was approached to help the Upper Octave with the lighting as a 'one off' for a show at the hall the Drayton Players use. He never escaped! Mike has stayed with the Octave ever since as followspot operator and technical support. Recently Mike deputised for Roger running the entire lighting desk.

Mike's day job is as a manager for BT Openreach. He is married to Carolyn, and they have two children, Laura and Reuben. Laura is currently at university studying for a degree in theatre, which proves that it runs in the family!
